PRIMATES OF SUMATRA
ADVENTURES AT THE JUNGLE GATES
Meet the primates of the island...
... WILDPIX LETS YOU EXPERIENCE AN ADVENTURE
IN THE HEART OF ONE OF THE LAST RAIN FORESTS...
Come open the pages of your own Jungle Book ... At the gates of the Gunung LeuserNational Park, jewels which are about 7500 km2 still well preserved, you will evolve, in one of the oldest rainforest of this planet. The rain sprinkles around 4000mm a year this beautiful forest and, it is in this dense green ocean that we'll meet the star "King Louis": the Orangutan of Sumatra(Pongo abelii). That's here we decided to do a special primates photography workshop !
There are many other species, the National Park is home to no less than 8 species of primates! Langur, Gibbon, Macaques, Loris ... also populated by various reptiles, like the Viper of temples, turtle, Malayan vane, Flying lizard also numerous and interesting insects(giant ants, butterflies ...) ideal for the macro-photography also !
It is here that I met Andrea, British primatologist, who left her native United Kingdom, to devote herself to the conservation and study of primates in Sumatra. She is also very involvedin the village! With his team of local guides we will evolve in this jungle, rocked by the cryof gibbons and the incessant sound of leafhoppers, we will try to approach as much as possible primates. Crossing the gaze of hominids is a strong experience that will leave youwith a deep memory. But beware ! It is important, as everywhere else, to respect these wildanimals: no selfie or too invasive approach. No feeding either.
This workshop is intendedabove all to be eco-responsible, that's why I chose this team, but also their accommodation, a simple eco-lodge, built with materials found on site (wood, river stone, bamboo .. .) All staff and our guides are paid better than elsewhere, for a fair approach. but above all the philosophy of our guests is important: a deep respect for the environment, the welfare and the conservation of the animals.
In this peaceful hotel you will have breakfast in front of the jungle, and who knows you willsee the monkeys waking up ... then we will go to the national park, all done on foot! It is possible to hire a porter if you do not feel fit).
