In Catalonia, northern Spain, in spring almost all possible species of birds explode. As a nature photographer, there are many species that are definitely on your wish list.
In this 4 day trip you can photograph both the beautiful small species and the large rare species.
From Red Rock Thrush to Provencal Warbler, from Small Stairs to Bee-eater or Hop. Each time from huts that are perfectly placed, sometimes also at watering places.
But at the same time you will try to photograph some of the most impressive birds of prey in Europe. The super rare Lammer Vulture for your photo booth seeing countries is nothing short of fantastic. Then dozens of Griffon Vultures, Monk Vultures and Vulturites who argue among themselves. In between Red and Black Kites that come flying past ... In short the ultimate bird of prey sensation. Flight pictures and the birds sitting quietly, you can see and photograph it all perfectly.
We offer this trip in a fixed formula of 4 photo days, where you will try different types every day, often even different huts in one day. The choice thereof may depend on the weather or the species present at that time.
That way you have the biggest choice and you are most likely to get the best images.
Area
We are in Northern Spain, in the Catalonia region, a little above Barcelona. Vast agricultural lands alternate with olive trees in a slightly sloping landscape. But in the distance, the Spanish Pyrenees, very suitable terrain for birds of prey and the natural habitat for vultures.
The beautiful small species
Since the landscape is a mix of arable land with trees, stones and shrubs, many birds find their nesting spots here. The assortment of species is enormous and for the most beautiful and rarest, there are photo huts. During your stay we have selected the most beautiful. Later you can read what is provided in the program.
The birds of prey
For many years, several colonies of Vale Vultures have chosen their place here. They often land in large numbers for the cabins and that alone with their wingspan of about 3m is a complete experience. Sometimes they come to a few meters from the hut and they can observe them so close is really unique. With a bit of luck, there is also a Monk Vulture and Egyptian Vulture.
But especially the super rare Lammer Vulture chooses this place to hunt. This bird has a very difficult time in Europe and survives only through intensive protection measures. Fortunately, they have an effect on this spot and can therefore be seen regularly in front of the photo hut. Of course that is no guarantee, it remains a very shy and rare appearance but with some luck it often works.
This must be about the most beautiful bird of prey on our planet. Seeing him the first time is really an experience. Usually he comes to leave the place like all other vultures. His silhouette, flight and color are unmistakable. And if you can watch it through camera or binoculars, it is simply WAUW! What a drawing and head he has, as if drawn by an artist.

Photo hides
The photo huts are of course all well placed and well built, different in size from 1 to 2 people, in most there is room for you and your tripod, others are more spacious. The reason for this is effectiveness and flexibility. Everywhere you work from behind mirror glass and of course you are comfortable. You can work from a tripod. The guide will always take you there, you will receive the necessary guidelines and it will be agreed when you are picked up. Of course you are counted on to strictly follow the rules of the guide. Depending on the period and the occupation you can expect fellow photographers in the cabin.
The accommodation
You can stay in a modern and well-equipped 3 *** hotel with free WiFi, air conditioning, hairdryer, TV set.
This package is in half board. Breakfast and coffee is always available at the hotel.
For a lunch or extra meal there is a large supermarket opposite the hotel. For your dinner you are expected in the restaurant next to the hotel.
You are in all directions about 30-45min from the cabins.
The guide will always pick you up. The hotel is located in a small town so you can quickly find a shop, pharmacy, restaurant or supermarket.

Day 1
Morning: Rock Thrush and other
Afternoon: drinking hut: warblers, green woodpecker, Great Gray Shrike, ....
Day 2
Full day: Vulture hide for Lammergeier, Griffon Vulture, Egyptian vulture.
Day 3
Morning: Blonde Wheatear or Bee-eater
Afternoon: Hoopoe or Little Bustard
Day 4
Morning: Crossbill, Black Woodpecker
Afternoon: Forest hide for all kinds of birds and Sparrowhawk
While driving to and from the cabins you can also discover and sometimes photograph in the field. The guide watches and stops when you wish.
