To the eastern border of Romania is a truly unspoilt natural paradise, protected UNESCO world heritage site, the Danube delta. Hundreds of square kilometers of lagoons, swamps and lakes make this a hiding place for an impressive mass of birds. And in the middle of it is a truly fantastic private area that has been completely transformed into a paradise for nature photographers. 1100 hectares of wild nature and old fish ponds where you can enjoy in comfort all kinds of different professional photo huts, each for its own species, from Bald Eagle to Pelican, from Jackal to sometimes even Otters ... truly amazing. You will stay in a luxurious 4-star lodge in the middle of the birds. This is definitely a unique and exclusive place where the photo opportunities are truly unknown.
ABOUT DANUBE Delta
With a surface area of 3446 km², the Danube Delta is the second largest river delta in Europe, after the Wolgadelta, and as a nature reserve part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. The delta is largely located in Romania.
The area consists of many reeds, marshes and forests, which flood during the spring and autumn.
The Danube Delta, with its numerous lakes and marshes, houses more than 1200 different plants, 300 species of birds and 45 species of freshwater fish. Approximately 2733 km² of nature reserve is protected. The area is where millions of birds from all over the world (Europe, Asia, Africa and the Mediterranean Sea) come to lay their eggs.
Very far in the Delta is a piece of private nature reserve that has recently been completely adapted to nature photography. With the help of biologists and scientists, this old fish farm has been completely given back to nature and that has not missed its effect.

This winter trip does not focus on the number of species but on the top species that you can photograph in the most beautiful lighting conditions. Jackals and Bald eagles are very active in the cold and soft winter light gives you really great shots.

the photo hides
About 20 different hiding places were carefully built in the area, each in a different biotope and with a different setting and light. Of course we go especially for jackal and bald eagle in this winter time so only those are used. They are very professionally and comfortably furnished, with mirror glass, luxury office chairs, anti-fog ventilation and some with heating. Of course, in winter only the huts are active where effective action can be expected.

IMPORTANT: WHERE CAN YOU TRAVEL BE ADAPTED OR CANCELED?
1. NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS
This journey can only take place from a minimum of 5 participants. Since the registrations must be received by 1/11/19, you will therefore know in the first days of November whether the trip will continue.
2. EXTREME WINTER
In cases of extreme winter cold in Romania it can happen that the Danube and its tributaries freeze completely. Winters with temperatures of -20 ° C are no exception. In that case, all public life stops there and no boat sails out. Boats are the only way to get to the area. Of course they do everything to be able to continue sailing, but if it really is not possible, and the freezing temperatures keep on, we will inform you in time about the feasibility of the trip. It may happen that in such extreme cases the trip is canceled.
IN EVERY CASE YOU WILL NEED TO BOOK A FLIGHT TICKET WITH THE POSSIBILITY REFUND
It could also happen that we can get there but that during the trip the weather turns and we find it harder to get back. That is an extremely rare scenario, but it is possible. It may then be that the return trip has to be adjusted according to the weather, and you may come home a little earlier or later.
All these circumstances are of course closely monitored and you will receive all necessary information in a timely manner.

TRAVEL GUIDANCE: JAAP LA BRIJN
These journeys are guided by wildlife photographers from Wildpix, depending on the period. We will arrange all practical matters for everyone. There are also moments for photo discussions and advice moments where we will give you tips & tricks about the locations, photo technology and material, if desired of course.
FLIGHTS AND TRANSPORT
Because we have a mix of Dutch and Belgian travelers, we consciously offer this trip excluding flights. This for practical reasons so that everyone can choose how and when they want to travel. We will of course provide advice as soon as the groups have been formed, so that we may still be able to leave as a group. But anyway there is a final appointment at the airport.
You can fly with WizzAir from Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Maastricht or Charleroi (BE) to Bucharest Otopeni Airport (Romania). From our experience that is the best connection, fast and (important!) Without expensive weight limitation for your material. All journeys are made on site by minibus and boat. That is of course all arranged.
You know how the flights are best arranged once the trip is full and we can put the group together.

Payments

In case of cancellation you must always inform us as soon as possible. Since we also have to pay cancellation costs with our partners, we can also pay a cancellation fee in some cases.
