Wild Pantanal Photo Expedition with

Sergio Pitamitz, National Geographic Image Collection Photographer

Award-winning photographer and journalist Sergio Pitamitz has both French and Italian nationality. He is a National Geographic Image Collection contributing photographer. He is mainly concerned with stories about nature, nature conservation and wildlife. As a photographer and journalist, he has traveled in more than 80 countries while carrying out his assignments, crossing all seven continents, from the Americas to Australia, from the North Pole to Antarctica, from Africa to Asia and the Middle East.

 

He is a contributor of the Italian edition of National Geographic Magazine and his images and stories have appeared in hundreds of publications including BBC Wildlife, Terre Sauvage, Oasis, Africa Geographic, Geo, The New York Times, Time, News Week, Figaro Magazine, Condé Nast Traveler, National Geographic website, as well as other National Geographic publications.

His first book, Wild Africa - with a conservation quote from the famous National Geographic photojournalist Steve Winter and the introduction by the world famous fashion photographer Giovanni Gastel - was launched in 2016 at the international nature photography festival of Montier-en-Der in France.

 

He is involved in raising funds for the National Geographic Big Cats Initiative through lectures and the traveling exhibition Wild Africa, which shows a selection of the best images of the book.

 

He has received recognition in many international photography competitions such as Nature's Best, National Wildlife, Oasis and Audubon. He won the NPPA - National Press Photography Association "Best of Photojournalism 2016 - Environmental Category". His photography is represented by National Geographic Image Collection. When he is not commissioned, Sergio conducts photography trips in the polar regions, in Africa and in the habitats of the big cats.

Complete itinerary

DAY 1 - Arrival , Jardim


Arrival at Campo Grande airport (CGB) in the morning, meet our guide and transfer to the town of Jardim (4:00 hours).
After accommodate at the hotel we’ll move to the Macaw’s Sinkhole where we can photograph Red-and-green macaws flying till sunset. Be-sides the macaws you will have the chance to photograph plumbeous ibis, toco toucan, blue-crowned motmot, spectacle owl and many more. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Jardim. (L-D)


DAY 2 - Macaws and South Pantanal
In the morning we photograph again at the Macaw’s sinkhole with different light conditions. In the afternoon we drive to the South Panta-nal (3:30 hours). At dusk we try to photograph the elusive ocelot from an hide. Dinner and overnight at Aguape Lodge. (B-L-D)


DAY 3 - South Pantanal
Early morning photography of toucans, Nanday parakeets, cardenals and other species in the bird feeders, hyacinth macaws, armadillos and many more.
After breakfast a walking safari looking for giant anteaters.
After lunch car safari looking for anteaters, capybaras, caimans, jabiru stork and again we try to get the best pictures of the ocelot.
A night safari offers the chance to spot southern tamanduas and even pumas and other night animals. Dinner and overnight at Aguape Lodge. (B-L-D)


DAY 4 - South Pantanal—Cuiabá
Early morning photography in the bird feeders, followed by breakfast and a boat trip on the Aquidauana river, to appreciate the beauty and exuberance of its gallery forest. It is the natural habitat of birds, mammals and reptiles that lie out on river banks. In the afternoon transfer back to Campo Grande. Dinner in a restaurant and flight to Cuiaba .
After lunch check-out and transfer to Campo Grande.

Arrival at Cuiaba , meet our staff and transfer to the hotel, overnight. (B-L-D)


DAY 5 - From Cuiabá to Porto Jofre
After breakfast we transfer to Porto Jofre making stops along the Transpantaneira road to photograph birds and caimans.
Arriving at Porto Jofre we will accommodate at Fazenda Jofre Velho, the Panthera center. After lunch we will visit the centre of research and learn about their activities, then we will install our camera traps in a forest. The camera traps will stay activated until our last day here, so please check the battery duration.

DAY 6_7_8 Jaguars
This morning we are going to explore the area of the Encontro das Aguas State Park, the place with the highest concentration of jaguars in the world! We have the opportunity to photograph also families of giant river otters, families of capybaras and lot of caymans. Among the birds: Jabiru storks, lapwings, black skimmers, terns, roseate spoonbills, kingfishers and many more. Dinner and overnight at Fazenda Jofre Velho. (B-L-D)


DAY 9 - Back to Cuiabá
This morning we uninstall our camera traps and transfer back to Cuiaba making a stop for lunch in a lodge where you can photograph birds in the feeders while resting.
At Cuiaba we accommodate in a hotel close to the airport and will have dinner in a typical restaurant. Overnight at Hotel Slaviero Slim. (B-L-D)

EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES

In case of cancellation of the trip from the organization on site due to exceptional and unforeseeable circumstances, such as extreme weather conditions, death, war conflicts, aviation failures, no refunds are possible for those reasons. You can always go to your travel insurance.

 

What if I have to cancel my trip?

 

In case of cancellation you should always inform us as soon as possible. Since we also have to pay cancellation costs with our partners, in some cases we also pay a cancellation fee.
